FAME post-stroke exercise launches in Vancouver — Get Involved

Professor Janice Eng and her team from the University of British Columbia and GF Strong Rehab Centre worked closely with stakeholders (people living with stroke, caregivers, stroke support groups, community centers, health authority) to move established exercise-based research into the community centers.   They are launching the Fitness and Mobility Exercise (FAME) Program for Stroke at the West Vancouver Recreation Centre, with a second site targeted in the future for Richmond.

This community-based program is the result of 4 research studies which showed that FAME improved walking, balance, bone density, heart function, memory and thinking and reduced falls in people living with stroke. In response to stakeholder input, education tips have been included as well as exercise.

This program will fill an important gap for programs supporting people living with stroke. Register here: https://westvancouverrec.ca/fall-winter/adults-19-years/health-fitness/rehabilitation/fame-stroke
