Stroke Recovery and Rehabilitation Roundtable to meet in Quebec

CPSR’s Dale Corbett and Lara Boyd are helping to organize the second international Stroke Recovery and Rehabilitation Roundtable (SRRR2). The meeting takes place in Saint Sauveur, Quebec from October 20 to 22. The first roundtable, which involved about 60 researchers from Canada, the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, the Netherlands, U.K. and Japan, was held in Philadelphia in May 2016 and resulted in six major guidelines papers.

“The purpose of the SRRR2 is to build on the great success of the the first roundtable where the focus was mainly on motor recovery,” Dr. Corbett says. “In this roundtable, we will tackle equally important issues but ones we didn’t have time to address in our first meeting.”

For example, one working group will address the topic of cognitive recovery, an important but relatively neglected area on both the preclinical and clinical sides. Dr. Janice Eng of UBC will lead a group on what evidence we already know and should be implementing.  Another will focus on the evidence required to decide whether an intervention is ready for clinical trials, basically a go/no go guideline. Finally, the group will identify 3-4 interventions that are ready for international stroke recovery trials.
